Four Thousand Miles. That’s roughly the distance between Cincinnati, where I spent the first 22 years of my life, and Honolulu, where I find myself now. This blog is a documentation of why and how I wound up here, my experiences since I’ve arrived, my memories of the past, how I succumb to wanderlust, and the challenge of living so far from the only place I’d ever called home. This is the story of my life.

i know that this is so random, but I was googling cat cafe’s in shimokitazawa and well your page popped up, so i clicked on it, and then i clicked on a few more of your links because they were interesting. i’m actually studying in tokyo right now, and you caught my attention even more when you said you were from cincinnati, because i am as well. I’m also moving towards the west when i graduate next this following year.

I’m glad you have enjoyed reading my blog. Always good to hear from a fellow Cincinnatian.
Hi, i’m Tami from Indonesia. 25 y.o. and at March 22-29 i’ll be in Japan traeling ALONE just like you.
it’s my first to come to Japan and also can’t speak japanese.
and all my family said either you’re brave or stupid and also stubborn.
i’m a single moslem woman who wears head scarf. i’m afraid of any western discrimination of my religion (based on my experience at KL and singapore). i’ll stay at female dorms at some japan youth hostels, by the way.
anyway, i really enjoy your story bout Japan travel and really got more courage because of your writing.
Thanks! ^____^
Best of luck with your trip to Japan! It can be scary traveling to a foreign country alone, but as long as you’re smart (don’t go anywhere with strangers, give your family the address of where you’ll be staying) you should be fine. I’m glad you’ve found my blog helpful, and I hope you have a great time!
Sophie! I’m so happy about your adventures in Japan and in college!! I’m super proud of you! Call me, we should meet up for some good (vegetarian) ramen when we can!
